The Philippines has A LOT of travel destinations to offer, and I chose to be a traveler of my own country on the historical landmarks of Ilocos during our 2-day trip.
Traveling comes easy with these options.(Better spent on an overnight trip)
By car
We rent a van and driver, took approximately 7 hours on the road.
By bus
Take a bus on Partas Cubao going to Laoag, travel time takes 10-12 hours.
Things to bring? Always a starter pack.
- Camera
- Selfie stick
- Power bank
- Shades
- Hat
- Finger foods
- Extra clothes
- Toiletries
- Pocket money (for pasalubong!)
Here's a list of my favorite spots that you should check on your next travel itinerary.
1. Laoag Sand Dunes
One of the most-awaiting, Laoag Sand Dunes. First time feeling like Cardi B on her Bodak Yellow music video (with diamonds all over my body) in a deserted safari. The humps made us grip on the jeep so tight as we crushed the rocky road.
First stop on Ilocos Norte, Vigan is one of the country's top tourist destinations. Feed your curiosity as you'll see the streets of the Spanish colonial town in Calle Crisologo. There's a mix of maintained Philippine and European culture in between the structures.
All about wild animals and our feather friends! Baluarte Zoo gives you a free experience of animal encounter, learning and conservation.
4. Bangui Windmills
Finally witnessed the most every famous! The Bangui wind farm generates renewable energy, providing the households a suitable livelihood. This place must be colder than Baguio and might be the coolest place in PH! We weren't prepared for this with our summer outfits as advised to be sand-burned. Well, say no to mornings like this 'expectation vs. reality' moment.
Situated at Burgos, Ilocos Norte, I loved the crystal clear waters and the different rock formation directing towards the sea level. It was named after it's color foundation, puraw or white. You need to walk into phases to get to the nicest spot. I felt the Moana in me while appreciating the strong winds and tidal waves. A good place to get lost and unwind your thirsty thoughts.
6. Paoay Church
Known as Saint Augustine Church, it's preserved infrastructure was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It takes a long road from the city to get here and it was worth it.
7. Burgos Lighthouse
Also called Cape Bojeador Lighthouse, it is the highest elevated original and active Spanish lighthouse in the country. It can be seen far away from the far province of Ilocos Norte.
8. Marcos Mausoleum
Your Ilocos trip wouldn't be complete without visiting the mausoleum of Former President Marcos in Batac. Learn about the strong foundation of his presidency which led other countries in today's era a sense of legacy.
I love the feeling of being a tourist of my own country. A sense of pride comes in knowing the roots of your blood. Once you get to know more about the Philippines' wonders, the more reasons to be a proud!
What makes you a proud Pinoy? Show some Filipino pride!
