Patina Maldives, Where Lux Meets Tropics

Paradise was discovered on the steps of sands in the Maldives, whereas the ocean greets with its whimsical wind under the sunny skies.

It was nearly the 'one island, one resort' concept. It has high-class facilities with top-notch amenities and services brought to your own personal comfort and convenience. It boasts its 90 rooms for the festive year 2023 when we visited Patina Maldives, a 5-star hotel situated in the Fari Islands in North Malé Atoll, consisting of contemporary one-to-three beach and pool villas and studio rooms in a private sanctuary.

EXPERIENCE

We were welcomed at the jetty in Male’ in front of the domestic port near Velana International Airport. We were received by a representative and joined with other groups in a yatch for a 45-minute ride within the Male’ atoll. The atmosphere was cozy, as the look and feel inside the hotel gave us an upscale impression. It’s not just a speedboat; they have their own Wi-Fi, drinks, and pastries to enjoy while on the way. I enjoyed the ride, but coming from a transit, I became seasick (so advice to fellows like me: take bonamine at least 30 minutes in advance to enjoy the trip, or nap instead).

Upon arrival at 3 PM as check-in (island time), we were greeted by our essentialist, who personally took care of us and attended to our needs digitally. We were accommodated directly to the room One-Bedroom Beach Pool Villa upon check-in and got awed at how the bohemian-style themed room with a rustic nature aesthetic fits the modern technology that they offer. Sized at 240 sqm, the villa has curated spaces for different uses, as it offers a hallway, desk table, sofa mat with entertainment of Bluetooth speakers, Wi-Fi, remotely connecting curtains, TV, iPad displayed as an e-brief, large bed, indoor and outdoor shower (and the toilet is automatic with push buttons, too), two faucets, and lighted cabinets on each side of the water closet. A plus was that they provided me with a birthday cake, fruits, and wine to welcome me on my birthday. Big thanks to the team!

When it comes to the exterior, they have a pool that we splashed into on this day, with a couple of chairs, a bench, a swing, and an outdoor bathtub to appreciate the scenery of nature in the tropical setting. So it would be nice to kickstart a quick dip and splash away.

After a little while, we got an invitation from the team to join a cocktail party at Fari Beach Club. We had a mouthful of snacks and cocktails to cheer with. We appreciated how we and nature collided, showcasing up-to-date modern aesthetics that cost a grand to view around the island. We got to have a detour at the Art Gallery Exhibit and saw the awe-inspiring exterior of light at night. I am truly impressed by the teamwork of exemplified eccentric artists.

By dinner, it had suddenly rained, so we decided to dine in the same area and ordered viands from Brasas, good for three pax. We indulged in the mouth-watering food as we later realized we were full. When we got back to the villa, we were impressed by the turndown service, with a bed decoration written ‘Happy Birthday’ as an additional amenity. To end the night, we toasted with cheers in celebration of my birthday.

On the following day, we had breakfast at Portico, where there are buffet stations available in different cuisines such as Chinese, Sri Lankan, Indian, and English. After minutes of passing through the buffet, we first took some Chinese at Koen Dish and later got full with an extra order of coffee and egg toast. We had a quick detour around and complimented the chic and cozy furniture made by talented architects.

We splashed on the beach later, as it seemed wide enough to go around the middle of the island, but we found no single fish, and it was not deep in depth, surfacing until half of our body. Nonetheless, we still enjoyed the calm waters in the lagoon area. It was definitely a seascape adventure, wandering the vicinity and encountering inclusive activities. We dropped by the Fari Marina Village to get a free Tuktuk Gelato ice cream, and it tasted scrumptious!

Nearby Patina is Ritz Carlton, wherein we get to go for a day visit and see the huge land by foot and buggy (or golf cart). The resort is quite long in width to inspect the facilities, so we decided to take a visit and snack by the al fresco bar.

One of the captivating moments was an uphill that is a Kids Club area, true to a minimal size that has an artsy corner that can accompany every child with lots of activities (they even have a sleeping corner!). The painting was done by a true artist, as it showcased marine life in lively colors.

When we got back via speedboat as a free transfer, we had a tour around the island by bike and appreciated the captivating ambiance of the upscale resort facilities. Also, we discovered there was a secret hideout spot for heroines to get together.

We had our dinner at Helios, and I was in awe of the female singer of the live band while I spent my cheat day masticating seafood, the Maldivian Lobster, with other guests. We toasted another champagne to celebrate the night.

On the next day, we took a different set of breakfasts at Portico and headed on for departure.
