Eco Hotel Launched The FIRST Zero-Waste Store In The Philippines

Great news, #Ecowarriors! Eco Hotel Philippines is proud to announce their opening of its first refilling station for household essentials on August 9, 2018 at Spaces by Eco Hotel in Makati.

As a green company, being profitable while being responsible is possible by applying a zero-waste lifestyle. True to their vision of combining sound happiness principles with environmental practices, the refilling stations asks all patrons to bring their own bottles.

You might be asking, why zero-waste and what is it? The simplest definition of zero-waste is to send nothing to the landfill. The more complex and scientific description is to completely overhaul the system, to move to a circular economy, thus making waste obsolete. Basically, we are eliminating the idea of trash altogether.

Can we achieve zero? No, we cannot. It is an ideal that we must all strive to achieve. However, in our daily lives, in small ways, we can make better decisions. A very concrete example of this is packaging. Think about it: how many products do you purchase with unnecessary packaging? And the usual scenario is that we mindlessly throw it away afterwards, thus adding to the linear economy of single-use plastic items.

If we decide to remove packaging, to make it obsolete, what would be the overall effect?

Therefore, Eco Hotel launched a zero-waste store with this goal in mind: introducing their call to action for BYOB (Bring your own Bottle).

Guests can now take home their signature shampoo, conditioner, bath gel and lotion, provided they bring their own empty bottles for reuse.

After the launch, they will  have refilling stations in our other properties to promote the package-free lifestyle.

Eco Hotel finds it important to reiterate the relevance of zero-waste in our consumerist economy of today. Paul Palmer first founded the concept of zero-waste when he saw the opportunity to resell laboratory chemicals to scientists and companies instead of disposing of them. It was already in practice way before then, during the depression era up until the 1950’s. Nothing was wasted because our consumer levels are vastly different as they are now.

As mindful consumers, we must be armed with this information and find a way to combat the linear economy. With our BYOB launch, we are hoping to start a small chain of change, starting with our guests, their friends, our families and the company. We hope you join us by taking this step to be package-free! See you at Cabins in Tagaytay on August 18, 2018.
